We welcome you to pitch us any essay of your choosing on Politics, Features and Food. Poems, creative writing, recipes photographs and illustrations are also welcome.

Max word count for essays: 750-800 words

Here are some ideas surrounding the theme to get you started! But feel free to send us any original pitches of your own so long as it sticks to the theme.

Features

  • What does it mean for you to belong somewhere? 

  • Are there places, objects, media that provide deep meaning or solace for you?

  • Are there places or situations where you feel out of place or feeling like you’re on a limbo?

  • Are there situations or places where you’ve felt like you don’t belong?

  • What does being a part of a community mean to you?

Politics

  • Diasporic experiences

  • Historical acts of political resilience in the uK

  • Political alienation

  • Asylum seekers and refugees are welcome to pitch in here to talk about their feelings on belonging, being in a limbo, and statelessness

  • Discussion on the relationship between citizenship and state.

Food

  • Is there a dish or cooking practice/process that brings you a sense of belonging in an otherwise unwelcoming place?

  • Your favourite eatery that has made you feel at home, or like you belonged.

  • How has cultural cuisines informed your sense of community and belonging ?
